Show Band Travels Around To
Conferences and Clinics

The name Show Band constitutes "the best of Maine West" in the concert band field. Members are only considered after passing an audition, but talent is not the only concern. A good scholastic rating is also necessary.

Maine's show band is the nucleus for its combos. Members of the various combos usually have a place in the show band. The band was formed and designed specifically for concerts and formal engagements. Its members learn to play all styles of music from dixieland to modern jazz. Besides being the official pit band for the V‑Show, Show Band also heads the Music Boosters Pow Wow.

For the first time the show band will be participating in the Chicagoland Stage‑B and clinic, February 2, 1963. Besides this noteable achievement, the band also took part in the APSS Zone conference held in Delavan, Wisconsin. The APSS is an organization of school administrations of Illinois and surrounding states.

This year's show band, headed by Mr. Jared T. Spears, and Wayne Markworth '64, student director, can be heard practicing for the 1963 B and Concert. Show band will perform numbers written by such all time greats as Marlow and Scott, "Dizzy" Gillespie, and Terry Gibbs. Chuck Hawes '63, a member of show band, has written an arrangement of "Late, Late Show" by Count Basic. Mr. Spears' composition of March for Moderns" will also be featured in this year's band concert.

Most of the members of the show band continue on in college and join top college bands. Students who have accomplished this are Jim Meyer 62, and Grant Winsauer '62, now both members of Northern Illinois Rhythm Rendezvous Dance band.
