Tomorrow night Maine West's varsity bucket squad will travel to Niles West in search of their eleventh win of the season. Thus far the Warriors have a 10‑3 seasonal record, and a 6‑i conference mark.
Against Morton West, the only team which kept the Warriors from winning the Proviso West Holiday tourney, West completely overpowered their opponents by a score of 82‑67. High men for the Warriors were Al Waters with 23 points and Barney Franzen with 22.
The Warriors lost the tip, and the ball went to Morton. Ball handling seemed to be the main factor in the first half as both teams waited for their chance, neither wanting to make a mistake. The first half continued as both teams traded baskets. Franzen began to hit, and the Warriors started to creep away from Morton, taking a 35‑30 lead at half time.
The second half was completely controlled by the Warriors as they scored 47 points to Morton's 37. West never let Morton come within five points of the lead. As the fourth quarter began, Coach Freeman substituted freely. West received credit for many of their points as they were extremely sharp at the foul line and, on the other hand, Morton was constantly in foul trouble, forcing some of their players to sit out part of the game.

Swamp Deerfield
Against Deerfield, West whipped their opponents by a score of 67‑30. From the beginning whistle the Warriors from Deerfield were never in it. Waters was high point man with 26, followed by DeKreek with 16.
On January 4, the Warriors won their eighth game of the season by a 20 point margin, 66‑46 over West Leyden. Al Waters took individual honors with 13 consecutive free throws for a total of 23 points.
Overall, West played one of its best games, hitting over 60 per cent of their shots from the floor and over 70 per cent of their free throws. The only negative point was the 19 fouls the Warriors committed.
