MW Students Practice It!
Brotherhood week at Maine West is coming up soon; this year it will start February 4. Of course, the feeling of brotherhood should last through the entire year. During this week Maine will make a special effort to stir the true feeling of equality among all students.

Many people speak of brotherhood but do not really know what it means. Noah Webster described it as "a group or society of men united in a common interest." The common interest among Americans is freedom and equality for everyone. There should be no discrimination of race or creed.

In our own school code we stress the importance of non-prejudice, but do we all practice it? We should.
Prejudice is not a major problem in our school, but it could be. Every year the idea of discrimination between classes and area groups becomes more prominent. It is not a serious split, but it is enough to cause some concern. Certainly there is always a tendency to belong to a "crowd," but one class or group should never feel superior to another for any reason.

In our society, prejudice has always been an issue of deep concern to those who believe in equality for all. Our forefathers thought it important enough to give their lives fighting for it.
