Set 5 New School Records

Tonight the Warriors will face Morton West in a home meet, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. In a recent meet against West Leyden, the mermen were able to capture eleven first place honors. These went to Art Behn, 200 yard individual medley; Bill Eley, 50 yard freestyle; Pat Gassner, 200 yard freestyle; Tom Gast, 100 yard butterfly; Dave Grant, diving; John Gunderson, 100 yard back stroke; Jim Hyerdall, 100 yard freestyle; Jimo Kuhrt, 100 yard breastroke; and Bill Schacht, 400 yard freestyle. The Warriors' 200 yard medley relay team and 200 yard freestyle relay team also grabbed firsts.

In the meet against Forest View, the Warriors set four new school records. Pat Gassner broke two old records for the 50 and the 100 yard freestyle events with respective times of 0:24.6 and 0:55.2. John Gunderson posted a new time for the 100 yard backstroke with 1:03.2. Bill Schacht set the new record for the 400 yard freestyle with 4:16.

First places were won by Pat Gassner, 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle; Jim Hyerdall, 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly; Tom Kelley, 200 yard individual medley; Per Lungren diving; Pete Robinson, 100 yard breastroke; and Bill Schacht, 400 yard freestyle. The Warriors relay teams in the 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley also won firsts as the mermen took their second meet in a row by the score of 84‑11.

Against Elgin the Warriors missed a perfect meet by two points. In the process Bill Schacht broke another record with a time of 2:06.7 seconds in the 200 yard freestyle.

This raft of first places went to the following: Art Behn, 200 yard individual medley; Bill Eley, 50 yard freestyle; Pat Gassner, 100 yard freestyle; John Gunderson, 100 yard backstroke; Dick Heller, 100 yard butterfly; Jimo Kuhrt, 100 yard breastroke; Per Lungren, diving; and Bill Schacht, 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle events. Both relay teams also captured firsts to make the final score, 84‑11.
