Election week. Ah, it brings back memories of noisy halls, tag‑littered floors, tag distributors in weird costumes, election speeches, gimmicks, and hilarious skits.
Have you ever thought about the underlying meaning of this special week? Election week is set aside for the selection of the Student Council president and secretary for the coming school year. The most popular boy or the girl with the "gift of gab" is not necessarily the best qualified person. These are qualities that show outwardly, but what is this person like inwardly? Is he running for the prestige a position will give him? This is doubtful, because the candidates realize the responsibility and work involved in either of these great undertakings.

When you pick a candidate to support or to vote for, realize what his platform is and what he stands for. Remember his achievements. Little things add up to one big thing‑the best choice!
As you stand in line to cast your vote, be thankful for the democratic ways of Maine West. We are really participating in a mock election. Registering and voting in the booths is good practice for the time when we come of voting age.
Let's have the best election week ever, and let's also be proud of the ways of West‑they help us to become better citizens.
