Bucketmen Boost Wins to 16

Sporting a season record of 16 wins and 4 losses, West's varsity bucket squad travels to Proviso West tonight in search of their twelfth conference win of the season.

Against West's biggest rival, Prospect, the Westmen came out on the short end of a 46‑45 decision. High scoring honors went to Barney Franzen who had 16 points. This ended the Warriors' home court which had reached seven games.

The first half of the Prospect game saw Prospect take an early lead, but the Warriors closed the gap to 20‑18 at half time. As the third quarter began the Warriors began to move. Led by Franzen and Rick DeKreek, the Warriors outscored the Knights 16‑9 and led 34‑29 as the third quarter ended. Prospect was not to be denied, however, as they roared back in the fourth quarter. The lead changed hands several times with Prospect finally coming out on top by the one point margin.

Slaughter Forest View

On February 15, the Warriors picked up their sixteenth win of the season by trouncing Forest View 64‑4O. DeKreek and Franzen were high men for the Warriors with both of them coming up with 22 points.

Against Glenbard East, the Warriors gained a 61‑46 victory. Al Waters led the team with 21 points and was followed by DeKreek who had 12. The Warriors completely dominated the game as they outscored the Rams in each quarter except the fourth.

Overtime Victory

In one of the most exciting games of the season the Warriors slipped by highly rated Homewood‑Flossmoor with a 70‑66 overtime victory. Franzen hit for 21 points and DeKreek for 19 to lead the Westmen in scoring. Seven players contributed to West's 70 points. The most important ones, however, were Bill Dautel's clutch free throws with six seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. With one minute left in the game, Flossmoor led 59‑54 and seemed to have the game wrapped up. The rest of the game was all West's as they stormed back and set the stage for Dautel's game tying free throws, and overtime victory.
