Gymnasts End Season Sat.

Maine West's varsity and frosh‑soph gymnastics teams close the season on dual meets as they travel to Glenbrook North for an afternoon meet beginning at 2, Saturday.

Last Friday the varsity gymnasts met defeat at the hands of Prospect Knights. The final score was 92 - 40. The only Warriors to place third or higher were Tom Roessing and Rog Halvorsen, who tied for third on the side horse, and Gerry Peterson who took second on the parallel bars.

On Feb. 11 the musclemen trounced Forest View 91 1/2 - 40 1/2, only five points short of a perfect meet. The Warriors took first in every event. Warriors placing first were: Stealey Branch, trampoline; Tom Roessing, on the side horse; Rich Beier, on the high bar; Gerry Peterson, on the parallel bars; Dick Braun, on the still rings; and Jack Peterson, at tumbling.

The gymnasts lost a close meet to West Leyden, 71 1/2 ‑ 60 1/2 on February 9 when only two Warriors managed firsts Tom Roessing and Fred Bach took the top spots in the side horse and tumbling, respectively.

Proviso West beat out the musclemen on Feb. 1st, 85 ‑ 51. Rog Halvorsen took top honors that night by taking a first on the side horse. Jacki, a Provso gymnast, did an exceptional performance in the meet. He entered all six events (which few gymnasts do) and placed first in four of them. He also captured a second and fourth in the other two.
