At the Wieboldt's Scholastic Art competition in the Randhurst shopping center Maine West art students received 55 Gold Key awards, 21 Blue Ribbon awards, 81 Honorable Mentions, and 2 Hallmark awards.
Only three Hallmark awards were given for the best drawings or paintings in the region. These drawings and paintings will be put in national competition for $100 cash awards. Along with these winners, three senior art students' portfolios were selected to go on to national competition for art scholarships to leading universities, colleges, and professional art schools.
Each year students in the art department at Maine West submit outstanding pieces of work in regional competition at the Wieboldt's Scholastic Art competition.
Gold Key award winners were John Aegerter, Connie Andersen, Peg Beher, Randy Black, Jens Brasch, James Brennan, Michael Brennan, Ardes Buckley, Frederick Carlson, Russell Dillingham, Sue Dombrowski, Sheila Dunn, Judith Englert, Dorothy Gapinski, Angie Golembiewski, and Eileen Halek.
Also Joan Hanke, Neshan Keshian, Patrick Lasalle, Donna Lindboe, Nancy Lindemann, Cheri Mercer, Leslie Pease, Edward Pientka, Tom Prochaska, Todd Riddell, Carolyn Ross, Paulette Straub, Robert Taylor, Alice Utter, and Laurel Williams.
