Because of their outstanding qualities of character, leadership, and service, 94 students were elected to membership in the National Honor society at Maine West.

Scholarship being a prerequisite, these students were not evaluated on their academic standing. Each faculty member evaluates the students with whom he has worked in the classroom, extracurricular activities, homeroom, or study hall. A student may receive a rank of 5‑superior, 4‑good, 3‑average, 2‑poor, 1‑unsatisfactory.

Those seniors whose total scores place them in the upper 15 per cent are invited to membership. Junior members are selected in the same manner, except that membership is limited to the upper five per cent. No junior is chosen whose total score on leadership, character, and service falls below the minimum senior score accepted.

Tea March 20

These juniors and seniors selected to membership in the NHS will be welcome at a tea held in the cafeteria March 20, at 3:15 p.m. A formal initiation will be held April 26 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium.
