MW Enters Math Contest
The nation-wide math contest sponsored by the Mathematics association of America and the Society actuaries was yesterday during the first and second periods.

The contest was open to accelerated math students or any interested students. The students first had to take a preliminary test, prepared by math teachers Mr. David Henry and Mr. Ed Smith. The top 60 high scoring students were chosen to compete in the national contest. The questions for the contest, unknown to the teachers, were exposed yesterday morning for the first time. The top students in schools all over the country and Canada participated in the test.
The purpose of the contest is to stimulate outstanding achievement in mathematics. A pin will be awarded to the winner from our school, and the three best papers will represent our school as a team entry in the national contest.

"Last year Maine West scored 29th in the region. We're looking for a substantial improvement this year, although we felt that 29 was an excellent score," related Mr. Larew Collister, mathematics teacher.
