The Maine West debate team will compete in two final varsity tournaments March 9 and 16. The first event will be a State Sectional meet at Evanston followed by a Suburban Interstate debate meet.

Traveling to Evanston will be Dawn Piotter '65, John Grimes '65, Randy Dean '65, Phi1 Engle '65, and Terry Sellke '65. "Competition will be intense," explained coach Mr. Eric Edstrom, "and those who qualify will travel to the finals downstate."

After the March 16 event, Maine West will hold its Debate Award tea May 9. At this time emblems will be awarded to 13 squad members, and initiation ceremonies will be held for those becoming members of the National Forensic league.

According to Mr. Edstrom, the frosh‑soph and JV squads have shown a great deal of promise this year in defeating virtually all competition. An expanded program is being planned for the next year with openings available in the frosh-soph level and a limited number of positions on the JV‑varsity level. Mr. Edstrom stated he would like to talk to any students who are interested.
