Diamondmen Eye Opener

Warrior diamondmen are eyeing the calendar as their season opener date, April 6, nears. This non‑conference game will he played at Oak Park.

West is the defending champion of the Interim conference, ending with a 13‑3 league record last season.

Right now pitching is the main worry of head coach Al Carstens and assistant Gaston Freeman. Pitchers Chip Allen, Jim Dehlin, Les Jannusch, Dick Lunsford, Bob Palowski, and Ed Schwenke will be called upon to hurl the games.

"If our pitching holds up," surmised coach Carstens in an early season interview, "we have a good chance to grab West's third straight title."

The Warriors have an 18‑game schedule, with five twin bills and four non‑conference contests. Teams from Glenbrook, Niles West, and Prospect are expected to give the Warriors the greatest competition.

28 Report

Practice for the squad started officially on Monday, March 4.

Twenty‑eight boys reported for the first team meeting, but the coaches are expected to cut this number to 18 or 19 before the season opener.
