The Maine West bucket squad, led by Rick De Kreek and Al Waters, will play in the Regional basketball finals at Prospect tonight at 7:30.
The Warriors advanced to the finals by defeating Arlington 62‑53, last Wednesday. The Warriors, who played one of their finest games of the season, were led by Dc Kreek with 24 points, and Waters with 16. Joe Wehlacz did a fine rebounding job and scored 11 points, while Barney Franzen and Mike Schleicher added seven and four points, respectively.
By toppling East Leyden 6957 in their final conference game of the season, the Warriors ended in a tie for second place in the Interim league. Not counting the regional games, the Warriors had a 18‑4 seasonal record and a 13‑2 final conference mark.
Al Waters led the Warriors in scoring against Leyden as he hit for 19 of 21 free throws plus three buckets from the floor for a total of 25 points for the night. Rick De Kreek was next in scoring for the Warriors as he added 15 points.

The margin of victory in this game, as has been the case all year, came from the foul line. There West outscored their opponents by 10 points. Three East Leyden players fouled out, while two others received four fouls each. A total of 44 fouls were committed 26 against East Leyden and the remaining 18 against the Warriors.
Beat Proviso West
Led by the shooting of Al Waters with 14 points and Barney Franzen with 10 points, the bucketmen beat Proviso West by the score of 45‑36 on the Panthers' home court February 22.
From the opening tip the Warriors played an aggressive game, but were unable to gain a substantial lead over the Panthers. In the second quarter the Warriors completely controlled the boards by pulling down 12 rebounds and stealing the ball five times. The Warriors held a slim 19‑18 halftime lead.
The last half was all Maine's as they outscored the Panthers, 26‑18. The Warriors showed a strong defense as they shut out Proviso's Chuck Simmons, who was the fifth highest scorer in the league at that time.
