Ursula Joins West Activities
Ursula Krome '64, who is West's first foreign exchange student, is very active. In sports she likes track events. She is very much interested in mathematics and music. In Germany she played the flute and sang in her church choir. She is singing in Acappella Choir and hopes to sing in the high schoolage choir at the First Congregational Church of Des Plaines.

In Germany Ursula finished school at 1:15. She has found it very hard to get used to getting out at 3:37. During the day between periods the German students had 10-15 minutes to sit and talk or just walk around the campus. Ursula went to one of the two girls' schools in Hagen which is about one hour's drive from her home in Colon. About 750 students attended the school.

When asked about popular singing stars in Germany, she replied, "Elvis Presley is one of the most popular."

Ursula is living with the Donald Moehling family of Des Plaines. They have two students at Maine West, Elsa '64, and Paul '66.
Ursula saw her first football game here and remarked that it must be hard on heads. Over in Germany they have nothing to compare with football.

She has joined GAA and the German Club. When asked about homework she says she has a "great amount" and cannot "see how Paul can get all his homework done when he comes home from football between 6 and 7:30. I am having a great deal of difficulty," she added, "because I find it hard to read the language."

When Ursula returns to Germany, she will have three more years of high school left. There she studied 15 different subjects each year. When she graduates she hopes to get into physical therapy.

Her trip from Germany to New York took 10 days by ocean liner, then 17 hours by bus to Chicago.
