"Improving the quality of high school papers" was the theme of the 43rd Annual Convention of the Illinois State High School Press Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana. The convention was held on Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14.
Westerner staff members Joyce Ermeling '64, chief copyreader; Mary McCormick '65, page two editor; Martha Muncy '64, and Barb Sigalove '64, co-managing editors; John Gauger, '64, editor‑in‑chief; and Mr. Gerald Royer, the Westerner advisor, attended the convention.
Also attending were Val Enggas '64, class editor; Karen Rivard '64, editor‑in‑chief; Ken Miller '64, senior editor; Bob Rheinhart '65, faculty editor; and Mr. George Walker, sponsor of the Legend staff. The Legend, by the way, will go on sale just after homecoming.
The delegates made most of their trip by planning their, program to their specific needs and interests. Almost every phase of newspaper and yearbook management was contained in one of the 55 divisional meetings led by university or high school professors.
