New Year Brings Challenge
The 1963-64 school year has begun and for all students at Maine West it opens new and interesting challenges. For the freshmen the school year means meeting new friends and teachers, getting acquainted with the school building, and learning to meet the demands of a new schedule. For the upperclassmen the new year means getting reunited with old friends, searching for the newly placed study halls, and trying to get accustomed to the crowded cafeteria and halls.

All the students this year at Maine West do have some things in common. All have a new foreign exchange student, whom they must welcome. Many will be striving for high scholastic achievement. Many are joining and making up the clubs. It is hoped everyone will support Maine's athletic teams and lead them to victories.

The students at Maine West are proud of their school and the school is proud of them. This year especially the students at Maine West must live up to their good reputation. The upper classmen must be good examples for the new freshmen because in them lies the future of Maine.
The impression the students make on the foreign exchange student will be seen by surrounding schools and the people of her country. The academic records of Maine's students are also seen by many other surrounding schools. With a school as large as Maine, the students' scholastic achievements should be very great.

We are the students of Maine West, and it is up to us to make the future of Maine West as great as its past. Let's make this school year the best one yet!

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.
