VOL. V, NO. 1
WITH WINS IN their first two games of the season, the class of '65 still boasts an un-defeated football team. The JV's beat Waukegan 12-6 in the season opener. A recovered fumble by Steve Schneider and a steady drive to the goal line with Mike Green going over gave the Warriors a lead. An interception by Jim Dimatteo and his brilliant flip to John Whalen moved the ball to within four yards of scoring. Green clinched the game with the second TD.
THE SOPHS got off to a good start by defeating Glenbrook South 13-7 last week. Jim Kautz ran the ball over for the first tally. The second score came in the third period when Tom Hansch ran the ball over and Kautz ran the extra point.
THE FROSH will play their first game tomorrow at home against West Leyden, at 9:30 am.
WEST'S FROSH harriers beat Barrington Tuesday when Phil Martin led the pack in 10:28. The final score was 18-45. PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTS are now in full swing in all gym classes, as has been the tradition during the past years at Maine West. Most of the gym classes have already completed their first attempt at these tests and will try again in the spring. All boys do various exercises and receive points for such factors as amount, speed, and proficiency in every exercise. Every boy is required to do these tests and even though some express their disgust at having to do these exercises, the competition always seems to be there. The highest total at Maine to date is 592 out of a possible 600 total.
CONGRATULATIONS are extended to the newly elected cheerleaders of the frosh‑soph squad. They are Sue Conforte, Nancy Gunn, Harriet Hall, Cheri Mercer, Pat Radlein and Pat Silk.
