Candidates Make Ready
for Election Week Activities
Candidates for next year's Student Council officers of Maine West and South are getting ready for election campaigns and assemblies.
Juniors running for president of Maine West Student Council are Dan Barry '65, with John Gauger '64, acting as his campaign manager; John Bleharski '65 with Bob Kunkle '65, as his campaign manager; Dan Colvin '65; and Ken Hempel '65 both with Jan Virostko '64 and Pat LaSalle '65, as his campaign managers. Candidates have met the requirement of maintaining a 2.5 grade average.
Students campaigning for secretary are Ten Prochaska '65 and her campaign manager Nancy Julitz '64; also, Marilyn Skeppstrom '65 and her campaign manager, Martha Muncy '64. These two girls had to meet the requirements of a year of Council experience and a 2.5 grade average.
Juniors from Maine West and East who will attend Maine South next year are responsible for the election of their Student Council officers and representatives. The candidates for president from Maine East are Jackie Anderson, Chip Rollins, and Tim Sheldon. Girls from East running for secretary are Jill Corenevich and Judy Price. There are no students from Maine West campaigning for offices at Maine South.
The pre‑election assembly on March 12th will acquaint students with candidates and election procedures. The final election assembly of March 18th will allow candidates and campaign managers to give speeches. There will be no skits, however, due to the number of students running for offices at Maine West and South.
Campaign headquarters will be open on Saturday, March 14th, from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. and on March 16th and 17th from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Campaigning in school takes place on March 16th though 18th from 7 to 8 a.m. and 3:45 to 4 p.m.
Pre‑election week from March 9th through the 13th allows time for registration for voting on Thursday, March 19th. Election activities end with the Election Jitney on the 21st.
