VOL. V, NO. 10
'Kiss Me, Kate' Opens Next Week
By Kenn Hempel '65
Kiss Me Kate will open on next Thursday, March 12th at 8 p.m. and also show the 13th and 14th in the Maine West auditorium.
The story line deals with the Broadway revival of a Shakespearean drama. As the curtain opens, the director‑actor Fred Graham (Davis Hall '64), his former wife and leading lady Lilli Vanesse (Karen Rivard '64), Fred's primary interest Lois Lane (Betty Gano '64), and her true love Bill Calhoun (Dave Gant '64, and Dave Humphreys '65) are assembled with the cast on stage for final instructions before The Taming of the Shrew goes on.
The plot centers around an I.O.U. for $10,000 which the shiftless Bill has signed Fred's name to and a bouquet that Fred sent to Lois but is delivered to Lilli by mistake.
The Taming of the Shrew gets underway on stage and when Lilli finds out that the bouquet was not sent for her and the gangsters come to collect their money from Fred, the show seems to never have a dull moment or laugh pause.
With colorful and provocative tunes of Cole Porter and the crackling wit of Bella and Samuel Spewack the story unfolds in a merry and melodious fashion.
