VOL. V, NO. 10
Just as education plays an important part in future success, so do ability and determination play an important part in receiving an education.
Most everyone has the ability to do good work, but not everyone has the determination to make the best of his ability.
To be educated properly, one must strive for a good education for the purpose of broadening one's knowledge. A better job will be awarded to those who achieve a high academic goal.
Determination And Satisfaction
"Determination to make the best of this ability" refers to one's own ability, and not to someone else's. Using another's homework, copying during a test, and other such methods of classroom cheating may all give the student (if he is successful) satisfaction in knowing that he is getting good grades. However, when he gets out into the world looking for a job, although he may get one, he will not be able to hold it for lack of real education.
If a student puts his mind to his work and thus achieves a high scholastic average, a greater enjoyment and self‑satisfaction is acquired in knowing that he has reached his goal by himself. He feels a sense of security, not only in school, but when he begins to earn his living. He knows that he has received a good education, and his employer also realizes this. Also, if the student has developed good work habits, he has a better chance of succeeding.
What Lies Beyond
Everyone must think about what lies beyond high school or college. He must realize now that a real education, a good education, may lead to his success. He must also realize that no one can cheat his way through a living.
