Jensen Takes 4th in State
Dick Jensen, the varsity wrestling team's 95-pounder, took fourth place in State with a final seasonal record of, 23-20. Going into the State finals with 42 straight victories, he won his first, third, and fourth matches while losing his second and fifth.

In the first round of State competition, Jensen decisioned McGrady of Parker, 8-0. He lost his second match, 2-0, to Sarofsy of Proviso East, who went on to take State. He then beat Aimone of Pekin, 8-0, and O'Brien of New Trier, 6-0. In his last match, Jensen was beaten 2-0 by Clayton of Deerfield, who took third.

Jensen Takes Sectionals

Jensen was the only Warrior to qualify for the State finals as he won all three of his Sectional matches. He won his first match by a referee's decision, and his last two by scores of 8-0 and 5-4.
In other sectional matches, Jim Keller took a fourth place, Erv Geisler took a fourth place in the 138 pound class, and Mike Tompkins and Bill Rosenbergh both lost their first matches.

It is to be noted, and remembered, that in Jensen's match against Sarofsy, the eventual State champ, the score stood 0-0 until the final eight seconds when Sarofsy gained a take-down. Both boys had beaten identical boys in earlier matches, by identical scores, and were very evenly matched. The match could have gone either way, with either boy becoming the State Champ.
