Warrior of the West
"Our team should get into the sectionals, and with plenty of hustle, could make it to the super‑sectionals," said Joe Wehlacz, this week's Warrior of the West.

Joe lists as pet peeves, "small freshmen who look at me and let out a yell of fright" and "girls with huge hairdos."

Joe set two records at the Proviso West Christmas Tournament this year, one for the most points scored, 98, and another for the most goals completed. 39. "The toughest team we'll have to beat will be Maine East because of the great rivalry among both schools," revealed Joe.

After the end of the Deerfield game, Joe has collected a total of 437 points for a 20‑point average per game. He was also selected on the Mid‑Suburban all‑conference team, and nominated for all state.

Favorite pastimes? "Who, me??! Just talking on the telephone, I guess." As for foods, Joe likes well‑done steaks.

"I haven't decided on any one college yet, but I've been doing a lot of looking around. When I do pick one, you can bet it'll be a basketball school!"

Joe is too modest to mention this, but several universities have shown an interest in having him enroll at
