Nine Schools To Participate
In Interim Music Festival
It's the "district meet" for the music departments of the surrounding area tomorrow night at Deerfield High School. Yes, the annual Interim Music Festival will be given tomorrow night at 8 p.m.
The Interim Music Festival is a concert at which the top music students from various schools participate together. The students chosen will practice together tonight and tomorrow morning and afternoon for the evening concert.
Nine Schools Participate
The schools participating are Deerfield, Glenbrook North, Proviso West, Glenbrook South, West Leyden, Willowbrook, East Leyden, Niles West, and Maine West.
Mr. Robert Kuite, Maine West band director, is the chairman this year. Mr. Glenn C. Bainum from Evanston will conduct the band. The Concert Band will be sending 20 of its top students to the festival.
The Interim Band will begin the program with the fitting and explosive "Festival Prelude." This will be followed by the "Prometheus Overture" by Beethoven. The South American flavor is a fine follow‑up to the classical style of Beethoven. "Puerto Aleger" which means "port of fun" is just such a number. Next the mood changes to the European flavor of "Valdres March." Music from the motion picture spectacular El Cid will be an exciting finish for the band performance.
Orchestra Sends 10
Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, from Maine West, is once again orchestra chairman. The festival orchestra will be conducted by Mr. Dudley Powers, Northwestern. Maine's Concert Orchestra will be sending 10 students. The orchestra will start out in the same flavor as the band with "Egmont Overture" by Beethoven. Other numbers] on the program will be "Finlandia" and "Elegie."
The chorus will be accompanied by the band in "Sine Nomine," a processional which means "without a name." The orchestra will accompany the chorus in "The Last Words of David." Mr. Robert McCowen, Iowa State University, will direct the choral section.
The combined choir will sing eight selections, one accompanied by the band and one by the orchestra. Songs which 35 students from Maine West will help present include "We Praise Thee, O Lord" by Mr. Robert McCowen, "How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place" by Brahms, and a novelty arrangement of "The Saints Come Marching In" accompanied by narration.
