VOL. V, NO. 11
Peg Johnson turned a rosy shade of red when asked how tall she was. "Tall?" she said. Peggy is exactly 4 feet 11 3/4 inches short. Despite the fact that her legs are just barely long enough to reach the ground, Peggy stands tall as a top personality at Maine West.
"People who call me 'twerp' and jolly green giants are my pet peeves," explains Peg. Also, "people who don't have to stand on their tiptoes to reach the drinking fountain."
She remembers her most thrilling experience to be seeing the baseball team win the State Championship. A certain alumnus made the game and her junior year even more exciting.
Peg believes the most outstanding thing about Maine is the tremendous advantages that are offered in the academic and extra‑curricular fields. Peg feels that an improvement could be made concerning Brotherhood Week. As a member she offers the suggestion that, "brotherhood should be carried throughout the year."
Peg's activities have followed along dramatic lines during her four years at Maine. She has been a member of the Thespian Society for two years and this year serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the society. She also has been a member of both the Stagecrafters and Theater club for three years. In addition to this she has been noted as being a hard worker around V-Show time. This April will mark her fourth appearance on the V-Show stage.
One would think that these organizations would keep her busy, but she contributes to the governing of our school as well as the entertainment of it.
She served as a representative on Class Council for three years and on Student Council for three years as a representative and two year as an officer.
In her spare time, which is something she "claims" to have, Peg plays the guitar and uke and sings folk songs with a girl from Forest View.
Peg was presented the DAR and the Youth Leadership awards as crowning rewards for her leadership and patriotism.
Peg claims the things she'd like most to change about herself are her legs and her geographical distance from Urbana.
Planning to major in speech and drama, Peg intends to enter Eastern Illinois University in the fall.
