"NUMBER ONE SINGLES player will be a wide open position this year," stated Coach King when asked about this year's tennis team. The team this year is primarily a junior team, with only four seniors on the squad.

The only two lettermen on the team are seniors Cliff Vogel and Bob Poyer who made Coach King's statement about the team "being very tough toward the end of the year" appear to be a reality. Coach King's conclusion was, "The seven juniors should be, judging from the frosh‑soph record, of sufficient experience by the end of the year."

The team opens its schedule against the perennial south suburban champ Blue Island with a home meet on March 25th. Following this comes another rough contestant, Waukegan with one of the top teams in the area.

ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25th, the Maine West Dad's Club will hold the second of its three award programs. At this event, starting at 8 p.m., members of the basketball, wrestling, gymnastic, and swimming teams on all levels will be honored. At this event the choices for most valuable player and captain will be announced. The program will be M.C.'ed by Mr. Jim Lunsford and should prove well worth attending.

THE FROSH‑SOPH TRACK team ended its indoor season by losing to Proviso West 70-30, on Thursday, March 6th, and then came back demolishing Elgin 89-11, on Thursday, March 12th. The ovalmen's season record is five wins and two losses. Both meets were held at Maine East.

Phil Martin was the only trackster to enjoy an undeafted season. Phil lowered his sophomore team record to 4:36.2 in the mile run against Elgin. Other thinclads who had fine seasons are pole-vaulter Ray Todd, sprinters Ron Harrigan and Vern Ray, and high-jumper Wally Tistle.
