Maine Keeps Old Tradition
By Bill Fernow
Champions and championships are an ardent tradition in this day and age at the home of the Warriors. It is an age in which sports are flourishing, and for this there are many reasons.
The basic essential being for this period of constant winners, seems to be found, in part, with the will of the individual student who participates. State champions at Maine have centered around the fact that the average boy at West has a strong competitive spirit, along with a fantastic desire to be simply the best.
The desire and will of the "Warrior" is cultivated by some of the best coaches to be found. Proof of this statement is certainly abundant.
Maine West has been the youngest school to ever win the State Championship baseball crown. In 4 1/2 years, we've had baseball, basketball, cross‑country, football, golf, tennis, track, and wrestling Conference leaders. We've had numerous individuals and teams which were District, Regional, Sectional, and even State Championship.
The point is simple. We've built a reputation, one which plainly states, "We belong on top!"
Spring sports are about to begin. This year, Mainites have stepped in the right direction, and there is no reason to think that the "Legend of the Warriors" will be anything but a success in the future, as it has been in the past.
