Book Fare Featured for Exhibit
"Book Fare" is to be a featured highlight at the annual All-School Exhibit to be given by the Maine West Parent Teacher Council on Tuesday, April 28th from 7-9:30 p.m.
Although the main reason for this affair is to display student work from the last three quarters of school, all faculty members will be assigned to a specific location in the building from 7-8 p.m. for conferences. Arrangements for such conferences should be made prior to the night of the exhibit.
Aside from having a vast assortment of paperback books, the "Book Fare" will present book lists for parents prepared by the Reading Committee made up of one representative from every department. According to Mrs. Lucille Stiles, in charge of the Fare, the theme is to "Read More‑Achieve More." "I hope the 'Fare' promotes more interest in reading," said Mrs. Stiles.
Mr. Herbert Behrel, mayor of Des Plaines, has designated April 22‑May 2 as "Book Week" because of the "Book Fare" at Maine. Over 1,000 paperbacks will be on display to promote "good reading at inexpensive costs." These books will not be for sale, although the Path will be open. The Library will be open for displays.
To emphasize the physical education program, Coach Sid Drain's gymnastic squad will perform in the auditorium, after which the Modern Dance Club will show some routines.
The Aquiana Club will display their award‑winning swimming feats. Life Saving demonstrations will also be presented in the pool. C-wing gym will be open for volleyball and basketball. Miss June Thompson's senior gym class will present a folk dancing routine there.
The Science Department will have an interesting agenda to be explained in the Science Seminar in B‑wing. Phases of the Art Department will be shown in the A‑wing art rooms. The American Field Service and Ursula Krome, this year's foreign exchange student, will have a service desk to explain to interested people about the purposes of the AFS.
Mr. Robert Wells, assistant principal and coordinator of this affair, is expecting a turnout as large as last year's. He feels that the public is interested to know what the student body is accomplishing in the different programs offered here at Maine.
School will be dismissed at the end of 8th period enabling the faculty members to complete final arrangements. Admission is free and refreshments will be served in the cafeteria beginning at 8 p.m.
