Davis Directs While
Betty Co‑ordinates Production of V‑Show
Speaking in what people might not recognize as a southern drawl, Davis Hall explains, "When a person changes himself on purpose he is cheating."

As this year's V‑Show student director, Davis reports that he is looking forward to opening night. Davis has appeared in V‑Show's Stage West for two years.

His favorite expression, "Do which?" has been heard around Maine West's halls for four years. Last year he played the part of Jeff Douglas in Brigadoon. See How They Run showed him portraying Clive Winton. Also, this year he played a dual role in Kiss Me, Kate opposite Karen Rivard.

The stage being his truest love, this talented actor has geared his extra‑curricular activities toward these ends. Last year he was elected vice‑president of the Stagecrafters Club. This year marks his third year in the above and his second in Theatre Club, Choraliers, and Tri‑M.

As anyone can assume, Davis has spent over 100 hours on stage production, thus being eligible for Thespian Society. Davis didn't just join; he was elected vice‑president.

Among his other activities are one year on Student Council, a year's membership in the Maine Historical Society, and a position on the Memory Record staff.

During his sophomore year, Davis was on the staff of the Maine East Radio Station and this year as student-manager of WMTH he has his own show, "Touring the Classics."

"Responsibility drives me on," says Davis; and he reveals that he's gotten into a rut this year and that it's rough. He quickly adds he doesn't "regret" it.

In 1963 he was a winner in the VFW contest collecting a trip to Washington and a set of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Another honor granted to him was the award for patriotism, given by Mainites in Motion.

He enjoys reading plays and cites that he is "happiest when working in a play, without having to think of school."

As a tip to fellow Mainites Davis offers, "Students should take advantage of the clubs Maine offers because they are geared to vocational trades."

After Davis graduates he plans to attend Northwestern University to major in speech.
"Holy Pot," bubbled bright-eyed Betty Gano, coordinator of this year's V‑Show. "Everyone on the V‑Show production staff is working as hard as he can to make this year's V‑Show the best in Maine's history. All the acts have our fullest confidence, and I know they'll do their best."

Being coordinator of V‑Show is just one of the honors Betty has received since she's been here at Maine. Last summer she won a two‑week scholarship to the music camp at the University of Illinois. She also held second place in the district speech contest at Arlington High School.

As one could guess, drama is Betty's favorite subject. This was evident in the Senior Class Play, See How They Run, when she played the part of Miss Skillion; last year in Brigadoon, when she played the part of Meg; and in Kiss Me, Kate, when she held the dual role of Lois Lane and Bianca. "The part of Lois Lane was such a change from Miss Skillion," commented Betty. "Miss Skillion was so prim and proper, while Lois Lane was her exact opposite."

Betty's musical interests have been taken up with Girls' Glee Club in her sophomore year and with A Cappella Choir and Choraliers in her junior and senior years. She was made a member of Tri‑M in her sophomore year.

This blond, brown‑eyed senior leader thinks that sincerity is the most important trait to look for in a friend. The High Honor Roll was conquered by this spirited miss, and last year she was a junior official.

In the Path where Betty works someone mentioned that her favorite pastime is taking bike hikes. She says she'll never forget the time a group of her friends kidnapped her from a basketball game, blind‑folded her, and took her on a bumpy ride.

After graduation, Betty plans to attend either Parsons or Indiana State College.
