West Golfers Beat Broncos
Coach David Henry's golf team started its 1964 season off on the right foot by beating a tough Barrington team, 169-180. Two high men for the Warriors were Steve Ross and Clyde Rowells with 40's, followed by Krowka with a 43 and Pemoller with 46.
The varsity golfers, who finished in fourth place in the final conference standings last year, figure to do much better this year with a total of four returning lettermen. The returning lettermen are Henry Blenner, Mike Greene, Bob Pemoller, and Steve Ross. All of the lettermen are seniors. Coach Henry also mentioned that senior Mike Krowka, and junior Clyde Rowells will add depth to this year's squad.
Last year's team, primarily juniors, tied for first place in the conference tournament, and also finished 11th in the state tournament.
Coach Henry commented on this year's race saying, "This year's conference race will be a very tough one, with Prospect being the toughest opponent that the Westmen will have to face." Also, Coach Henry said that Glenbrook South would have to be rated as the dark horse in this year's conference race.
When asked about the future of the varsity golfers, Coach Henry replied, "We should have an excellent season, assuming there are no serious injuries to any of the players. Losing five seniors this year, means that next year's squad will depend on the development of the junior and the frosh‑soph golfers, who are under the direction of Coach Gene Zuccarini."
As a closing remark, Coach Henry mentioned, "All home meets are played at the Park Ridge Country Club."
