VOL. V, NO. 12
The West track squad looks for a successful outdoor season to add to its fine 5-2 indoor reading. Against Glenbrook South Tuesday, the trackmen won 93-25 in a home meet.
Strong in Hurdles
The tracksters will be strong in the hurdles where Bruce Congalton, Bob Tatge, Earl White, and Wayne Wysoglad will be heavily counted on. Bernie Braun, Dick Kobylski, Jerry Nebel, and Paul Neuman will handle the sprints. Rich Bokor and Pete Schafft represent the top men in the quarter mile.
Bob Biggs and Lloyd Schiegel will run the half mile for the ovalmen, while the mile is in the capable hands of Mike Amling, John Greco, Tom Johnstone, Don Kinder, and Russ Suszko. Dale Luzinski and Bill Rosenbergh will work the shot put and also double up in the discus with Tom Smith.
Phil Boyce, Phil Dindinger, and Larry Pintuck will take on all corners in the pole vault. Dave Kallstrand and Neuman will work the broad jump for the cindermen, while Phil Engel and Neuman will handle the high jumping chores. The sprints will be headed by Braun, Kobylski, Nebel, and Neuman.
Biggs, Bokor, Braun, Schafft, and Schlegel will be battling for the four open positions on the mile relay, while Braun, Kobylski, Nebel, Neuman, and Tatge fight it out for the spots on the 880‑yard relay.
Oak Park Relays
The West varsity tracksters did not fare too well in the Oak Park Relays, the largest indoor track meet of the year featuring 95 schools and 1,958 athletes, which was held on Saturday, March 28th.
Paul Neuman was entered in the high jump for the cindermen and went out at 5 feet 10 inches. Dale Luzinski put the shot 53 feet 8 inches to just miss placing, as he finished in seventh place. Bruce Congalton and Bob Tatge were entered in both the high and low hurdles for the thinclads.
