Girls' Club, Debate Team
To Sponsor Teas
"Merci Maman" is the theme title of this year's Mother-Daughter Tea to be given by the Girls' Club on May 12th. All senior girls are invited to come with their mothers.
"Girls' Club wants to honor all mothers," explained Donna Wolf '64, president. The tea will be between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets will be on sale in the cafeteria soon for $1.
The committee chairmen include decorations, Karen Kluessendorf '65; refreshments, Marilyn Conners '67; tickets and programs, Vicki Shine '66; entertainment, Carole Engh '65, and Sandy Bouda '65; and publicity, Kris Nielsen '66.
Debate Award Tea
The annual Debate Award Tea will take place May 15th in the student lounge at 3:45 p.m. Members of the debate squads, parents, and the administration will attend.
Awards will be presented in three degrees. First, debate emblems will be given to all debaters with 50 debating points or more. Second, entry into the Forensic Society will be awarded to 29 of the 30 members of the debating team. Third, a special degree of honor and excellence, and membership into the National Forensic League will be awarded to Phil Engle '65. Phil is the 1st debater from West to achieve such an award.
Squads will also be honored. The freshman debate team has gone undefeated this year. They have participated in approximately 18 debates.
Musicians to Evanston
The Maine West Concert Orchestra, Band, and Choruses will travel to Evanston High School to participate in the Evanston‑Maine West annual solo and ensemble festival tomorrow, May 2nd.
This festival is held each year with Evanston and Maine West acting as host alternately. The MW groups are sending approximately 75 students to Evanston to vie for top honors against Evanston musicians.
Tri‑M Initiates
Tri‑M or Modern Music Masters, has been initiating its new members for a six‑week apprenticeship, during which they learn about the aims, organization, history, and requirements of this honor music society.
In order to become a member, it is necessary to have an A average in music and a B average in academic studies, to be selected by a music instructor for leadership, and to show interest and ability in music by participating in a concert organization.
Apprentices are Franklin Baker '65, Robert Burgess '66, Carol Challberg '64, Richard Cornelius '65, Cheryl Fradette '66, Earl Flurkey '65, Wendy Geertz '66, Christine Haarvig '66, Beth Holmgren '65, Richard Hudson '66, Robert Larson '64, Tom Larson '65, Pat LaSalle 65, LaDonna Miller '65, Laura Nelson '66, Dawn Piotter '65, Gretchen Rivard '66, Claude Stewart '65, Joseph Wadz '66, Linda Waters '66, and Roberta Wells '65.
"After passing a written exam on the Tri‑M constitution, which will be on May 6th, they are ready to be formally initiated as active members," commented Arline Boyer '64, membership chairman.
The initiation ceremony will take place on May 21st at the awards dinner held in the cafeteria.
