Crack of Bat Brings Fans Out For Fun
By Al Pier

The weather is getting warmer, birds are winging their way north, grass is becoming green once again, and buds are starting to pop out after a long winter sleep. These are all signs of the coming of spring.

Other signs that signify the coming of spring are the crack of a bat and the wild yell from an excited crowd. Yes, the season for one of America's most popular sports is here, the baseball season.

Girls Learn Baseball

Although millions of fans enjoy the sport, there are too many who don't understand it, the greatest percentage of whom are female fans. For instance, some thoughtful guy decided that instead of taking his girl to the show or bowling as he usually does, he would take her to a baseball game. She said that she just loves the game, but by the end of the day the poor guy was afraid of ball parks. It seemed that in trying to explain a few simple rules and terms, she became so confused that he didn't even know what he was talking about.

Arguments During Games

It's not just the fans who get all excited over a game. Sometimes there are incidents on the field which make people wonder whether they're watching a base ball game or a family feud. Most of these arguments start in disagreements over strikes that should have been called as balls or vice‑versa.
To pick an unusual example, there was the time that the umpire called a perfect strike as a ball. The pitcher, who was very emotional, immediately went into a temper tantrum. He threw his glove down and jumped around, yelling, "No fair! I quit! What a gyp!"

Within a short time the members of the opposing team were all rolling in their dugout laughing at the pitcher's childish behavior. Suddenly a friend of the pitcher's ran over and screamed in violence, "Stop laughin' at my pal!" Then he grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it at all the players in the dugout. They stopped laughing when they started choking on the dirt; and in a fit of anger, they filed out of the dugout in hot pursuit of the pitcher's friend who was already half way back to his dugout.

In a matter of a few minutes, the whole dugout was in chaos. Bats, balls, and gloves flew left and right. Every player was expelled from the game, except the pitcher, who was still out on the field yelling, "It was a beautiful pitch! Unfair! I quit!"

Seriously speaking, baseball is one of America's favorite sports. It is enjoyable to watch or to participate in. There are baseball fans all over the world, not just in this country, and the sport is growing in popularity.
