Trees, Grass, Rain, Fashion Hail Spring
By Al Pier

Spring is here. Everyone has been looking forward to this beautiful, mild season. Leaves are popping out on trees, grass is turning green again, flowers are springing up, birds are returning from the south, and all the animals and insects that lay hibernating during the winter are coming back to life.

The gay months of spring also bring with them signs of the oncoming summer. Rain is a more welcome sight than snow. The lazy feeling known as spring fever causes many students' minds to wander from that stuffy study hall to a quiet riverbank, or maybe to a ball park where the White Sox are involved in an exciting game. This is the time of year when anyone who doesn't own a convertible is really "square," and skiers are coming down from the white, snow‑covered slopes and taking to the water.
Fashions for boys and girls change too, as the weather becomes warmer. Sleeveless dresses and short‑sleeved shirts are the big things now, while overcoats and gloves are temporarily out of style.

Spring also opens the season for a line of wonderful sports. Baseball is a favorite of nearly everyone. Tennis and swimming attract many exercise‑minded people, while others prefer more relaxing sports like golf.

Yes, spring is here. However, in just a short time these warm, mild months will be giving way to the hot, lazy months of summer. School will be out for three months, and students will be able to relax once again.
