Diamondmen Meet Deerfield
at Home Saturday
Maine's varsity baseball team meets the Deerfield Warriors in a double header at the West diamond. This will be the 1st Conference home game the State champs have played, and a good turnout of Mainites is expected.

Maine West's Warriors were slighted in their opening Conference game when Tom Lundgren threw a no-hitter to win 2-0. Maine won the 2nd game of the doubleheader 2-1 behind the two-hit pitching of Dick Lundsford. Coach Carsten's team also played and defeated Proviso West, Willowbrook, and West Leyden.

Lundgren Looks Sharp

Although Maine lost the game and failed to get a hit, the Warriors hit the ball well. Only fine fielding by the Forest View team saved the no‑hitter for the junior pitcher. Lundgren displayed a good fast ball and excellent control, by striking out 14 and walking only one. Les Jannusch was the losing pitcher for Maine. Les pitched a fine game allowing only two runs on six hits, but good was not enough.

In the 2nd game the Warriors showed the ability to shake off defeat. Dick Lunsford went all the way for Maine, winning his 2nd game in as many starts. West collected five in the contest. Juniors Mike Neese and Danny Makos had two hits each to help the Warrior cause.
Hitters Dominate Play

On April 22nd, Maine walked all over Willowbrook 10-0. In that game Jannusch shut out their Warriors on three hits. He turned in his best performance to date by striking out four, while walking only one. Jim Smith, playing 1st base for Maine collected three singles in four trips to lead the Westmen. Jannusch helped his own cause with a home run in the third inning.
