Journalists, Paper Get Awards May 20th
"Best Use of Pictures for 1964" is the award just recently presented to The Westerner in a statewide high school newspaper competition. This honor was given by the Illinois Press Photographers' Association who sponsors the contest annually.
"We were quite thrilled over the news," said Mr. Gerald Royer, sponsor, on behalf of the staff. "This is the first year we have entered the IPPA judging."
According to Mr. L. H. Cameron, photo editor of Paddock Publications and contest chairman, a plaque will be awarded at the Quill and Scroll party.
Honor Members
Juniors and seniors who have done outstanding work on school publications will be initiated into the Quill and Scroll Honorary Society at a party to be held on May 20th in the cafeteria.
In addition to working on the Legend or The Westerner, these students must be in the upper third of their class and be assigned to a position on the staff of either publication next year.
Mr. William Ludolph, head of the English Department, will present the honored students with gold pins. Jane Pressl '64, president, will be in charge of initiation.
New Staffs Announced
Also the staff for next year's Legend and Westerner will be announced by Karen Rivard '64, editor of Legend and John Gauger '64, editor of The Westerner.
Initiates who have earned membership by work done on the Legend are Donna Batdorf '65, James Bullerman '65, Kathy Flentge '65, and James Kahn '65.
Membership will be bestowed on these students for work on The Westerner, Tula Arvanitis '64, Maureen Carlson '64, Maureen Dempsey '64, and Sharon Geach '64.
Also Tim Keane '65, James Leis '65, Martha Muncy '64, Lorna Seitz '65, James Thoma '65, and Jane Wolski '65.
Present members of Quill and Scroll and Val Enggas '64, Bill Fernow '64, Ken Miller '64, Jane Pressl '64, Karen Rivard '64, and Barb Sigalove '64.
