Four Mainites Plan to Attend Colleges
for Summer Study
"Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, four Maine West science and mathematics students will spend this summer studying and working on projects in colleges throughout the nation," revealed Mr. Joseph Clouser, Science Seminar director.

Tuition and fees for Mike Amling '65, Dan Barry '65, Dick Leyerle '65, and Bill Mankel '65 will be paid by the National Science Foundation in Washington, D. C. They will be among 7,500 secondary school students sponsored by the foundation.

Mike's course of study will include mathematics and computer programming at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Under the direction of Dr. Willis Carton, Mike and 31 other student mathematicians will spend eight weeks, June 28th to August 21st, studying probability, statistics and number theory, and mathematical integration.

Dan will attend Colorado State University for eight weeks. The program, which begins June 15th and ends August 7th, will involve field ecology and will be supervised by Dr. James R. Meiman.
Dan was one of eight boys chosen to study at the Pingree State Park campus, 60 miles west of Fort Collins. His specific project will involve the movement and population of deer in the park.

Dick will study mathematics, chemistry, physics, and history and philosophy of science at Clarkston College of Technology in Potsdam, New York. He will be among 50 students to spend seven weeks under the direction of Professor H. S. Bingham.

Bill will study microbiology under the University of Michigan at Interlocken for six weeks. The course, under the supervision of Dr. H. J. Blumenthal, will begin June 28th and end August 8th. Bill was one of 32 students accepted.

"We have never before had so many Maine West students accepted for summer study," revealed Mr. Clouser. "We are sure their experiences will bring honor not only to themselves but also to their school."
