Fine Arts Festival Begins Tonite
The second annual Fine Arts Festival will be presented tonight and tomorrow night, May 15th and 16th, in the school auditorium. Due to the success of last year's festival, which was held only one evening, the program will be repeated. The purpose of this festival is to display the artistic, musical, and dramatic talents of Maine West students to the public.
A completely different program is planned for each night. The Friday program will open with the Girls' Glee Club singing "Veni Creator Spiritus" by Schmid, with a solo double trio consisting of Chris Birchfield '66, Jill Du Clos '64, Carolyn Relph '66, Carolyn Rohrbach '66, Vickie Shine '66, and Lois Wedell '66. Then, in a lighter mood, they will sing the old English folk song "0 Dear, What Can the Matter Be?"
"The Marching Song" by Larson and the Norman Luboff arrangement of "Ghost Riders In the Sky" will be presented by the Boys' Chorus. A chorus of 150 girls will sing "Song of Love" from the musical Blossom Time by Sigmund Romberg.
Friday night will feature such orchestra numbers as "King of Kings," "Concerto for the Clarinet, op. 622," and "South Pacific."
A one‑act comedy, A Marriage Proposal, by Anton Chekov, will be given both evenings. Neshian Keshian '64, John Heckel '64, and Karen Rivard '64, will play the leading roles. Directing the play is Betty Gano '64, and Mr. Garth Boyer, speech instructor.
On Saturday night the A Cappella Choir will present an entertaining agenda of music beginning with "Let All the Nations Praise the Lord." Davis Hall '64, will narrate the amusing "Variations on the theme of 'When the Saints Go Marching In.' " The Choraliers will sparkle as they sing the enchanting mountain tune "Weep, O Willow."
The Concert Band, playing on Saturday, will present "Symphonic Overture," "Coat of Arms," "Puerto Allegre," and more. Later in the evening the band will play "Silhouettes," which is a medley of Jerome Kern favorites.
An impromptu expressionistic approach to art, using music and lights to set the mood and tempo to a drawing, will be shown on Saturday by Donna Lindboe '64, Cheri Mercer '66, Todd Riddell '64, and Chuck Wente '64.
