"It was a very thrilling experience. I never thought I'd make it out of the district finals," said Richard Hermann '65, when asked how he felt about placing second in the Illinois Junior Academy Fair contest, May 9th.
Robert Larson '64, also won a second prize award at the fair. Robert's project was on "Viscometric Determination of the Isoelectric Point of a Protein." Richard's project was on "Flowering Clock Reactions."
Jennifer Demko '67, won a third prize award for her exhibit, "Environmental Effects in Teratology," which is the science of abnormal structures in animals.
The awards were given at a program at the University of Illinois in the Assembly Hall at Urbana, Illinois. The three divisional finalists from Maine West, and the finalists from Maine East spent May 9th and part of May 10th on the campus. They were accompanied by Mr. John Hugh and Mr. Louis Bergdolt of Maine's Science Department.
