Westerner Honors 5 Best Athletes
Chuck Esposito is a firm believer that in order to become a good athlete, he must put out 100 per cent all of the time and follow training rules.

Chuck has successfully spent his four years at Maine on the football, basketball, and baseball teams.

In his sophomore year he was voted the most valuable player for both the football and basketball squads. In his junior year he received his first letter in football and was made captain of the JV basketball team.

He became a member of the National Brotherhood Society in his junior year and was elected president this year.

In football he was chosen for the All‑Conference squad and received honorable mention on All‑Suburban team and a special mention on the All‑State team,
John Gabbert, by spending the greater part of his time working out and disciplining himself in the situations he faces, has proved himself a great athlete.

Lettering twice in football, he has played the positions of quarterback, line backer, and extra‑point kicker. Through John's great efforts he has become a member of the All‑Conference team for both football and basketball.

As a member of the varsity baseball team for two years, John has been the mainstay of the squad. From his position behind the plate, he both directs and encourages his teammates.
Another example of one of Maine's capable and very versatile athletes is Dave Aegerter, who has earned a total of seven varsity letters. Three of these are in football, two in basketball, and two in baseball.

Dave played varsity football in the quarterback slot since his sophomore year and this year he was chosen most valuable player and captain, along with his All‑Conference and All-State nominations.

A forward in basketball, he missed most of this season because of illness, but when he did go in, toward the end of the season, he was cheered by the Warrior supporters.

As the first baseman on the baseball team, he was one of the two returning lettermen from last year's State champs.

Dave feels that teamwork, not individualism, makes good teams, He is one of Maine's most popular and well-rounded students.

He plans to enter the University of Wisconsin next fall.
Les Jannusch is another one of those athletic seniors that Maine West is not happy to see go. He was chosen for the All‑Conference football team last year, and in his four years of football Les has lettered twice.

Les played basketball for three years and spent four years on Maine West's baseball squad. He was a pitcher on Coach Carstens' State Championship Maine West baseball team last year. Lettering in baseball this year, he was the first‑string pitcher on the team.

After graduation, Les plans to attend Northern Illinois University and wants to major in math and continue in sports.
Dick Jensen, one of the best wrestlers Maine West has turned out, helped lead the matmen to their first Conference championship. His wrestling record for the past two years has been an amazing 43 straight victories, with 19 pins, one of the longest streaks in the state.

In four years of wrestling, Dick lettered in his sophomore, junior, and senior years. His other awards include two District first places, two Sectional first places and a fourth place in the State. Another of his accomplishments is being elected to the All‑Conference squad for the second consecutive year. He was elected the wrestling team's most valuable wrestler for the past two years.

Besides wrestling, Dick has participated in three years of cross-country.
