Diamondmen Top League;
Lose to Boylan in Sectional
Maine West's varsity diamondmen won their fourth straight Conference title by defeating Prospect 5-0 on June 1st. Earlier the Warriors were knocked out of the State baseball tourney by Rockford Boylan. The embarrassing score in that game was Rockford 12, Maine 0.

The Prospect game was won as Stoney Jackson went all the way for the Mainites. Harrison got the loss for Prospect.

In the Rockford game Maine just could not get started. Rockford scored three runs in the first inning. West could not come back. It seemed that the harder they tried the more they fell behind.
Dick Lunsford started for the Westmen, but was relieved in the second inning by Les Jannusch. Jannusch was hit hard, but only two of the next nine runs were earned.

The baseball season, as a whole, was successful for Maine. With a final record of 14 wins and only 4 losses, the diamondmen took Conference over second place Glenbrook North.

One thing which was lacking on this year's squad was experience. This will not be the case next year. This year's Junior Class and next year's Junior Class will present a united front against all opposition. At the beginning of the year, Coach Carstens said this would be a season of rebuilding. It has been, and a strong team will take the field for the Warriors next year.
