First Debate Set at N.U.
Maine West's debate team will be traveling to the Northwestern University campus, October 12, for their first debate of the 1963-64 debating season.

The purpose of the trip will be to qualify for the CBS television program, "Rebuttal." In the past three years Maine West has competed to be on the show. It has qualified twice. During the year, winning teams will compete in five rounds, each on different questions.

Though all the teams varsity, junior-varsity, and sophomore, will travel to the meet, only the varsity team will debate.
Members of this team are Randy Dean, Phillip Engle, Mary Gembicki, Steve Karina, Dawn Piotter, Jackie Piriano, Robert Reinhart, Tim Zijewski, and alternates, Cheryl Fradette and Drucilla Owen.

The topic of debate will be, "Resolved: The Federal government should provide adequate medical care for all citizens at public expense."

Mr. Eric Edstrom, the debate coach, said the purpose of the program is to "demonstrate to the public that teenagers are capable of considering the major issues confronting us today.­
