VOL. V, NO. 2
Maine South Should Open
For the Next School Year
By September 1964 it is expected that Des Plaines and Park Ridge will have a third high school, Maine South. Construction work on the new school is proceeding on schedule, according to a member of the architectural firm.
It is probable that some students at Maine West now may attend this school next September.
Located on Talcott
Maine South is located south of Des Plaines between Devon and River Road on Talcott Road.
The new school will have the same basic facilities and selected faculty that Maine East and West now have. The curriculum will be predominately college preparatory courses.
Maine South will use the Maine East fieldhouse and stadium for activities and football games. Boundaries and enrollment figures have not yet been determined according to Mr. Ralph Frost, assistant superintendent.
The city has asked permission for part time use of the gymnasium and skating area for its recreational program.
Foundation Completed
All foundation and caisson work is in and the structural concrete frames for the gymnasium are completed. In addition 75 per cent of the roof for the center area has been completed and 85 per cent of the sewer and underground piping has been completed.
December 7th has been set as the date for a referendum to increase the educational rate, according to the Board of Education, in order that deficit spending will not have to continue.
