Coach Enjoys Spanish Trip
By Kathy Taylor
While many were sunbathing at the beach and taking it easy this summer, Mr. William Barringer, language teacher and cross country coach, was expanding his knowledge of Spanish.
Mr. Barringer traveled to Spain on a Fulbright Scholarship, one of the highest and most difficult scholarships to obtain.
A very heavy scholastic schedule was carried by the students in Burgos, Spain, throughout the week. Spanish literature, Spanish history, Spanish art, and Spanish conversation were the courses studied by Mr. Barringer.
In spite of the rigid school schedule, however, time was made available over the weekends for sight‑seeing. Mr. Barringer spent most of his sightseeing in places as Asturias, Galicia, and Navarra. One of the highlights he considered was the famous Fair of Pamplona. This is the time of year when the bulls are allowed to run in the streets before the bull fights begin.
His sight‑seeing was not restricted to Spain alone, as an extended weekend afforded him the opportunity of visiting the neighboring country of Portugal. En route home he had a brief stay in London, England.
Mr. Barringer is hard at work with his cross country team, trying to equal last year's record undefeated team.
