Leah Is Concert Twirler;
Wayne Leads The Quintet
If you should see somebody darting through the hall between third and fourth periods in shorts, it will probably be Leah Forcell '64, on her way from gym to band.

Leah is the solo concert band twirler this year. For the last two summers she has gone to twirling camp where she twirled six hours a day for five days. During this time she learned how to twirl fire.

When her high school days are over she would like to attend Butler University or Wisconsin University to study fashion, dance, and merchandising. Her ambition is to become a choreographer or a merchandiser. Leah has had some experience in fashions as she has won $50 in a Wiebolts' modeling contest. Now she is on the fashion board at Carson's in Randhurst and at Saks Fifth Avenue,

When she isn't. eating cold pizza or taffy apples she is usually sewing, twirling, or listening to her collection of stereo records. Leah's biggest responsibility was working at Kay Campbell's sport shop in Rand. burst this past summer. She had to open and close the shop and also deposit the money in the bank.

This five‑foot, two inch blonde's pet peeve is "people who are always late for appointments." She will hate to leave Maine West, as "the teachers and students are so nice."
"I'll never forget it," replied Wayne Markworth '64. "I was leading the pep band at a basketball game last year against East Leyden. I got so enthusiastic that Leyden's coach had to come over and tell me to quiet it down, or he would ram a trumpet down my throat."

"Crutch," as he is affectionately called by his close friends, is leader of the well‑known school combo, The Quintet. Wayne received his nickname last year when he hurt his leg while broad jumping.

Wayne gets his biggest kicks by playing the trumpet in show band, and he'll never forget last summer when Maine West's concert band, of which he was a part, won the state championship.

To relax, Wayne listens to jazz and classical music. He also likes to watch football and basketball games. Over the summer he was a life guard and made pocket money by playing in combos.

Planning to go to either Indiana University or Michigan State, Wayne will major in musical education.
