VOL. V, NO. 4
Calling all students who want to get by the easy way! Join the Cheaters Association of Maine West. It's helpful and easy, but just see how far it gets you.
No one likes a cheater. Yet, a lot of it is going on daily in our classrooms. Surveys have proven that 67 to 84 percent of high school students cheat at one time or another. The irony of this is that the kids with the high I. Q.'s are just as guilty as the ones not so intelligent.
The question now is why. Why do students make out "cheat sheets," scribble answers on cuffs and hands, write code notes on desks, use hand signals, peek over at their neighbor's paper, or devise any other imaginable device, just to pass a test? Some do it because they can't resist the temptation to peek, they don't care about the particular subject, or because it gets the top grades needed for college acceptance.
Cheating may prevent flunking, but what good does it do if a person doesn't know the answers? Sure, maybe "Mother would take away all dating privileges for a semester," or Dad would be very hurt if his only son wasn't accepted into a top college, but is cheating worth all this? Cheating catches up with a person sometime, and when it does, he'll be sorry. His whole life will be affected. Information that was supposed to be in his head just won't be there. He might be a complete failure not only to himself, but to his family.
To all cheaters - just try doing your own work for a change. Receive the satisfaction of knowing you've earned your own grades. This is much more rewarding than a high mark based on someone else's knowledge.
