VOL. V, NO. 4
Band, Orchestra, Choruses
Are Maine's Unsung Heros
The band, orchestra, choruses, and Aquianas are teams that deserve as much support from the student body as do various athletic teams. These are the groups that practice, not only in "season," but all year long. They also strive to bring home glory to the school. These musicians and swimmers receive no letter awards and often times little recognition or glory.
The Music Department presents five yearly concerts for the entertainment of the student body. These concerts are not only for the parents, to attend but students also. The concert orchestra and choruses have been working for more than a year on some of the music to be played and sung at the November 8th concert. The members wish to provide a fine evening of entertainment for the student body.
As proof of this, they will attend String Day at Northwestern University tomorrow, giving up their Saturday, to study and work with Thor Johnson to perfect their technique so as to present to you the best concert possible.
The members of the concert band have only one week to memorize a complete half‑time show for the football games. They have to be so precise as to know just what blade of grass to be on at which particular instant. This is a highly‑trained, precision organization whose teamwork and timing must be as well calculated as the plays of the football team.
If these organizations go to this much trouble to entertain you, it is your obligation to attend. Nothing is more encouraging to a musician or a performer than to see every seat filled and to hear a roaring applause.
