Debate Team Will Compete On
'Rebuttal'
Maine West's varsity debate squad will appear on WBBM television's "Rebuttal" program. The program will be televised at 2 p.m. on December 21.

Jackie Piraino '64, and Dawn Piotter '65, will hold the negative position on the debate proposition that Congress should enact FEPC (Fair Employment Practices Commission) legislation. Jackie, during the qualifying tournament for for "Rebuttal," received the highest amount of speaker's points awarded for one debate. At the recent Evanston High School Debate Tournament, both Jackie and Dawn won. Representing the Maine West debate squad along with Jackie and Dawn will be Miss Patricia Conway, coach and speech teacher at Maine, and the backing team of Tim Zijewski '64, and Mary Gembicki '64.

"The competition will be keen," said Mr. Eric Edstrom, debate coach and history of civilization teacher, "as Maine West is offering one of the best varsity debate squads it has had in years!"
The student body is invited to attend the broadcast or watch it on channel two. Both the program officials and the debate coaches urge the student body to come to the program to support their debators.

The address of the studio is 630 North McClurg Court (one block west of Lake Shore Drive between Ontario and Erie Streets). Take Kennedy Expressway to Ohio Street exit, go east on Ohio Street to McClurg Court.

The program's purpose is to present interscholastic debates on television in an effective and interesting manner. Each TV debate is judged by a panel of three critics. Trophies will be awarded to the teams in the final round. The first and second place teams will receive individual trophies.

The varsity, JV, and frosh‑soph debate squads will be attending a Suburban Inter‑State Debate League Tournament at Prospect High School on December 14th.
