VOL. V, NO. 6
Peggy Johnson, Cal Lewis Win
SAR-DAR Contest
The Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution annually present awards to one senior girl and one senior boy for outstanding citizenship. The winners from Maine West for the 1963-64 school year are Peggy Johnson and Cal Lewis, who is the president of the Senior Class.
Each member of the Senior Class nominated three boys and three girls for the awards. Then, the faculty voted on the six students with the highest number of votes, and from these six, Cal and Peg were chosen as the winners. They are eligible now to compete with winners from other high schools throughout the state for the state award.
There are four things upon which the competition is based. The first of these qualities is dependability as shown through integrity and punctuality. The second is service as shown through cooperation and responsibility. The quality of leadership and the quality of patriotism are also important for a nominee to have.
Both Peg and Cal will receive a pin award and a certificate. Peg will be honored' at a luncheon in Des Plaines, and Cal, at a dinner in Downers Grove. The dates for these events have not yet been announced.
