Now is Time For Good Will
By Larry Farley '65
All men have one thing in common‑Christmas spirit. How is this possible when all men are not Christians?
Christmas spirit does not necessarily mean that one believes in Christ. Christmas spirit is a feeling for one's fellow man. It is charity, good will, and greeting cards. It is the awareness of peace and the inspiration of bells chiming carols on the street.
Of course, these sentiments exist all year round‑or do they? Do men drop coins in charity's pot every time they pass it? Or is it just at Christmas? Do they smile at everyone they see and sincerely wish them the best? Or is it just at Christmas?
Man has a natural tendency to live for himself and disregard others. To be considerate is a great effort; to be naturally unselfish makes one a freak. Man must be pushed to help others except at Christmas time.
We celebrate Christmas to remember a great prophet on his birthday. The world rejoices, for there is still hope for deliverance. If man is willing to give one day each year to his fellows, is it not possible that he may grow; and next year give two days? Time will tell.
