Tankers Off To Fair Start
The Varsity swimming team has had three tough non-conference meets in the past three weeks. The Tankers have come up with a 1-2 record, and they are looking forward to a successful Conference season.
At home, although losing to Proviso West 44-51, the tankers put on a tremendous display of teamwork and sportsmanship. Jimo Kuhrt came through with another school record of 1:08.8 in the 100-yard breastroke, topping his record of November 22nd by .005 of a second. Jimo held the school record last season, with a time of 1:09.9.
The relay team of Eric Berg, Tom Gast, John Gunderson, and Jimo Kuhrt opened the meet by winning the 200‑yard medley relay. Dave Grant took third place in the diving competition. Jim Hyderdall set a school record for the 100‑yard freestyle, with a time of 53.9 seconds.
In a tough away meet on November 23rd, the tankers lost to Evanston 80-15. Jimo Kuhrt, 105-yard breaststroke, and John Gunderson, 100-yard backstroke, placed second.
